During
the 1920s, a Commission was established to choose a distinctive
flag for the District of Columbia. Guided by A.E. DuBois, the
leading heraldic scholar who worked for the Quartermaster
General's Staff designing flags, medals, arms and other
insignia, the Commission announced its choice on October 15,
1938. The basic design for this flag derived from the coat of
arms used by a Washington family. |
