This flag was first officially hoisted on April 27, 1960. All three American colors appear in the flag and the bald eagle, another
long-time symbol of the United States, appears in flight bearing two American Samoan emblems. The right claw holds a fue, a staff used by Samoan chiefs as a traditional symbol of wisdom and the
left claw holds a war club, suggesting power of the state. Together, they represent order and peace under American direction. |
