On April 4, 1818, Congress
passed legislation establishing the number of stripes at seven red
and six white with an additional star for every state joining the
Union. On July 4, 1912, the U.S. flag grew to 48 stars and
remained the same for 47 years - through two World Wars and the
emergence of the United States of America as the leading nation
of the world. |
